Plantar Fasciitis: Relief Is Just a Step Away

Writer: John RussellJohn Russell

What is it?

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue connecting the heel to the toes. It causes sharp heel pain, especially in the morning or after long periods of rest.

Symptoms:

  • Stabbing pain in the heel (particularly in the morning)

  • Pain after standing or walking for long periods

  • Tenderness along the bottom of the foot

Causes:

  • Overuse from running or standing all day

  • Flat feet or high arches

  • Worn-out or unsupportive shoes

Treatment:

  • Plantar fasciitis treatment includes stretching exercises, custom orthotics, and footwear adjustments.

  • Rolling a frozen water bottle under the foot can help reduce inflammation.

  • Wearing supportive shoes with good arch support minimises strain.
