What is Nail Surgery?

Writer: John RussellJohn Russell

Nail surgery (partial or total nail avulsion) is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anaesthesia to remove part or all of a toenail. This treatment is commonly used to treat ingrown toenails, fungal infections, and other persistent nail conditions.

During the procedure:

✅ The affected part of the toenail is carefully removed.

✅ A special chemical may be applied to prevent regrowth.

✅ The toe is dressed and bandaged for protection.

When is Nail Surgery Needed?

A chiropodist in Manchester may recommend nail surgery if you experience:

❌ Severe ingrown toenails that keep coming back.

❌ Painful toenails that interfere with walking.

❌ Thickened or deformed nails due to injury or fungal infections.

❌ Recurring infections that don’t respond to other treatments.

If your toenail issue is persistent or worsening, it’s best to consult a chiropodist for a proper assessment.
